Dalton, GA – October 27, 2009 – The Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) has announced that Frank Hurd, has been reelected as Chairman of the Board of CARE.
The unanimous vote was held during CARE’s quarterly Board of Directors meeting held October 27th in Dalton. Mr. Hurd, who also serves as Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) was the CARE Board’s first elected Chairman, taking the reins when the carpet recycling and diversion organization was formed in 2002, . In the past seven years, Hurd has led CARE on its journey from a fledgling organization to its current position at the forefront of product sustainability and green building in the U.S.
“It is an honor to be associated with such a dedicated group as CARE. I thank every member of the Board for their confidence in me and for all the hard work they put into CARE. I look forward to another great year for CARE,” Hurd said.

CARE was formed as a result of the Memorandum of Understanding for Carpet Stewardship (MOU), a national agreement signed by members of the carpet industry, representatives of government agencies at the federal, state and local levels, and non-government organizations. CARE works diligently to develop market-based solutions for recovering value from discarded carpet in order to facilitate the achievement of the organization’s ultimate goal of a 40% diversion rate of post-consumer carpet from the nation’s landfills.
