California ports are slowing down – and crippling recycling as a result.
While the impact of the port slowdown on the West Coast is not unique to carpet recycling, it has a significant impact on our industry.
Recyclers are not able to obtain enough containers to load international shipments, which leads to warehouses filling with sorted and baled carpet. Truckers do not want to haul to ports due to long lines and wasted hours. The Port Maritime Authority controls ports from Seattle to San Diego, so there are no viable alternatives.
