In 2006, Starnet, the world’s leading commercial flooring partnership, challenged its members with an ambitious goal – divert 50 million pounds of carpet from landfill by 2015.
To reach this milestone, Starnet has vowed to reclaim any type of commercial carpet from anywhere in the country. The organization then ships used carpet to dedicated reclamation centers to avoid landfills. Starnet members manage the carpet reclamation process from removal to compliance to certification.
Since the initiative launched, Starnet proudly reports its member companies have:
- Reclaimed over: 9,929,152 sq. yds. (89,362,368 sq. ft.) of used carpet
- Weighing over: 44,681,184 lbs.
- Preventing: 220,648 cu. yds. of carpet to landfill
- Saving over: 446,811,840,000 BTUs
- That could supply energy to: 2,484 U.S. homes for 1 year
- Global warming potential averted: Over 312,410,839 lbs. CO2 equivalent
- Saving over: 136,277,611 gallons of water
Please join us in congratulating Starnet on their current accomplishments – but more importantly – help Starnet reach the 50 million pound goal by 2015!
To participate in 50 by ‘15, contact Pam Herrlinger to confirm used carpet quantity diverted on a particular project or for a specific time frame. Pam will record the amount of used carpet involved and (if requested) issue a Starnet/CARE Carpet Reclamation Certificate!
