Biography: Andrew G. Acho
Title: Worldwide Director of Environmental Outreach & Strategy
Andrew G. Acho is the worldwide director of Environmental Outreach & Strategy for Ford Motor Company.
Acho serves as Ford’s champion for the development and implementation of more aggressive actions that demonstrate Ford’s commitment to the environment, including leading the global Conservation and Environmental Grants program in more than 40 countries outside the U.S. He initiated and led Ford’s Recycling Action Team (nicknamed “The Rat Patrol”). He has been aggressively pursuing and implementing environmental stewardship efforts since 1990.
In 2001, Acho was awarded the Wildlife Habitat Council’s (WHC) President’s Award. The award was presented in honor of his outstanding commitment to preserve and protect the environment for future generations, and for his global vision of environmental and economic sustainability. This was only the second time in WHC history that its top honor has been awarded.
In January, 1996, eight Midwest governors, led by Michigan Governor John Engler, formed the Great Lakes Recycle Board. Acho was appointed chairman of the board by Mr. Engler.
Acho joined Ford in 1960 as a cooperative trainee and served at the Engine and Foundry Division as a quality control engineer and product development engineer before being named Chief Analyst for Truck Planning and Merchandising at Ford Division in 1968.
Between 1969 and 1976, he served at Industrial and Chemical Products Division, Corporate Planning Staff, Marketing Staff and Transportation Systems Operations with teams of specialists analyzing and developing new company business.
Beginning in 1976, he served in several management positions in product and international business planning areas. He became OEM operations manager at Ford Tractor in 1982 with responsibility for directing worldwide sales and marketing.
Acho joined Corporate Strategy Staff in 1988 and was involved in managing international business and diversification planning strategies. In this capacity, he traveled extensively and led a team that recommended new market entries for Ford globally.
He received his bachelor’s of science degree in 1963 and master’s of business administration degree in 1967, both from the University of Detroit.

Biography: Dr. Peter J. Ludovice
Dr. Peter J. Ludovice is an Associate Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois and M.I.T. respectively. After postdoctoral work at IBM, NASA and the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zürich Switzerland, he was the manager of polymer products for Molecular Simulations Inc. before joining the Georgia Tech faculty.
His research interests include the use of computer simulation of synthetic and biological macromolecules to provide insight into important structure property relationships. Recent work from his lab has explained the unique conformation of poly(norbornene) synthesized using a vinyl-like polymerization rather than the Ring Open-Metathesis Polymerization (ROMP) approach. While this polymer is currently being used as a photoresist material in the microelectronics industry, its conformational behavior makes it an ideal resiliency-enhancing additive for carpet fiber.
